The more you fiddle with it, the worse it gets. You can’t ignore it, but why mess with all those chemicals just for a side effect? Just use reverse osmosis or distilled water. What to do? Leave them alone. Stop chasing them after you’ve stressed them out. I doubt they had an excessive need for oxygen. They were just reacting to the chemicals and anything that was agitated. I should have left them alone. The pitcher of bubbly juice only increased their stress. You should have left them alone. It was the water change after the stress of everything else that tipped them over the edge. You should have left them alone. Do you notice a pattern? The more you interfere, the worse it gets. Try to do the bare minimum and take it easy. Add the water drop by drop over hours. Use reverse osmosis, not tap water and chemicals. Do one thing and let it sit for a day or two, then do something else a few days later and let it sit. This is not a crisis. It’s probably just parameter fluctuations and unnecessary stress.
Why so many chemicals? When changing the water, I would only use a dechlorinator unless I’m changing too much water, about 70%. Everything dissolves on its own; even the chlorine evaporates after about 24 hours, if I remember correctly. Addition: I misread that: not even a water change, just a refill? They’re definitely using too many chemicals. Keep in mind that Florist also contains copper. If you overdo it, you’ll endanger your shrimp.
Wait, they could have been excited and happy.
Also get some test strips. Check the parameters. As they say, shrimp don’t like drastic parameter changes. A water change or supplement isn’t a problem. The important thing is the parameter changes. I change the water regularly, but I make sure the parameters are similar. I have good tap water for tetras and neocardias.
Did you use the correct amount of dechlorinator? Using too much can deoxygenate the water. An air stone can help.
