how to decorate a rustic christmas tree

I’m torn between an Australian woodland Christmas, a '90s Christmas, or a forest-themed Christmas. Tell me yours.

Vintage, nostalgia, to be honest, I never really have a theme because vintage decor is expensive, I just add more each year.

Pure Christmas. We don’t have a theme, just lots of Christmas from November 1st through March/April. I wonder if I’ll be able to start in October this year, haha

I’m so excited because I’m about to build my first Christmas village. So far, I’ve only experimented by buying used houses. I jumped right in, not realizing the huge differences between brands, collections, etc. I’m sticking with Department 56’s “Christmas in the City” collection because they’re all the same size, or at least close to scale. Does anyone have any DIY landscaping ideas? I’d love an elevated village and, of course, a blanket of snow, etc. I’d appreciate your advice.

Rustic as always. Lots of trees, including birches at corners and entryways, with birds and lights. We grow Christmas trees, so we have one in every room. One is decorated with feathers from wild turkeys, ducks, pheasants, and geese. Elk antlers on the porch, covered in white lights and red baubles. Fireplace mantels covered in moss, pine, antlers, and lights. You get the picture.

Whoville this year

Every year I make a combination of vintage and homemade ornaments. It’s easy because you don’t have to buy everything new every year.

No theme, just a constant evolution of what I acquire with what I already have. My own unique style.

I want to try black this year, it would be new for us.

I can’t plan that far in advance, but just answering your question makes me happy

I’m expanding on my gingerbread theme from last year.

I usually have the same gold and white in the living room, vintage in the kitchen, red and white in the dining room, mint green in the family room, and rustic paintings on the Christmas tree in my office. I might change the bathroom decor this year.

This year I’m building an adorable elf mailbox. I found the pieces this weekend at flea markets and garage sales.

Probably retro, as always. Although I’m still debating whether I should make a kitschy 1950s aluminum tree this year. Getting a matching artificial tree would be the easiest.

Gold and white, I already have everything in my basket.

Last year, I made colorful silk flowers and gingham ribbons for a cottagecore theme. I really enjoyed it. This year, we have medical debt to pay off, so no new stuff, though I don’t usually spend much anyway. I’m trying to get creative with inexpensive materials and make my own jewelry. I once made a tree of Louisiana, my home state, with large handmade white paper magnolias, crystal raindrops, and Louisiana moss. That was one of my favorite motifs. I’m thinking about maybe doing a literary theme using pages from these old notebooks I’ve been meaning to throw away. I can wrap them with ribbons, but to keep them from looking arbitrary, it will need other things, and I’m not sure what those might be.
