At the top you can place a thicker garland on the edges.

Can you buy a second skirt and stack them? There are inexpensive giant ornaments at the hardware store that you can use to stuff the skirt. I’d just put a blanket on top to maximize the space underneath. No one will see it.

Can we zoom out? Because I really like the box.

For example, I wrapped empty boxes in pretty paper and placed them under the tree to add more filling. But since I live alone, I don’t want to disappoint my loved ones.

My tree is just a pretty cover. I have a Christmas village skirt I can hang over it, and I like the plain cover better. My tree doesn’t seem as tall as yours either.

My solution is to make a lid for the box. I would buy Velcro tape. Measure horizontally how many boards you need. You’ll need at least 4 boards. Vertically, say 8. Ask Home Depot to cut 8 pieces to fit your shortest vertical width. Use a multi-tool to cut a square from the two center pieces slightly larger than the log. So, if the log is 1 1/2 inches long, remove a 1-inch square from the right side of one board and the left side of the second board. To cut them the same way, simply flip the board over. Then use the Velcro tape on the top of the box and underneath the wood. Home Depot will cut a 12-inch square in the two center pieces for you, in addition to the square support. Glue Velcro tape around the bottom of the wood edges. You can spray-paint the wood. You can stain it, or buy a refinisher and paint it to match your box.
