how to keep ornaments from falling off tree

The title says it all. I have 15-month-old twins, so this is my first Christmas with toddlers, and I don’t know what to do. What have you done or are you planning to do?

I only have plastic ornaments. Nothing of value.

Or build a gate around the tree. I have a five-and-a-half-year-old daughter who threatens to knock over my beautiful decorations when she gets angry. So I’m not saying she’ll get better, haha.

This year, we’re skipping the tree and instead have a felt tree for her to decorate and a small tabletop tree she can’t touch. Although I like decorating, we’re short on space this year. There’s a large park where the tree is located, and I don’t want to rearrange the entire ground floor just to put up a tree for a month.

I’ve heard that wrapping large boxes and using them to protect the tree works.

Decorations in the middle of the tree.

And a tree for her? A distraction, haha.

Attach the tree to the wall and use plastic ornaments that he can safely hold and play with, or baby gates as others have suggested.

Attach the tree only to the wall and lights. If you have plastic ornaments and don’t mind hanging them constantly and finding them all over the house, hang them with string.

Mine go in our conservatory and I also have a small one at home, on the dining room table, as a mini decoration.

Last Christmas, we put up the fence from the park where she grew up around the Christmas tree. That kept her out. This year, when she’s 25, we’ll try not to barricade the tree and hope she doesn’t destroy it. Am I being too optimistic? Haha.

We’ll start with just the artificial tree, maybe just the base, and then add more as we see how it goes.

In recent years, I’ve opted for a Santa or snowman theme and decorated my tree with minimalist ornaments. Pinterest is my source of inspiration. My keepsake ornaments are still in a box for now.

The baby gate around the tree, haha, but don’t hang things too low and let them touch the lower branches. It wasn’t a big problem.

I put him in a playpen, haha, which was a bit boring, but I only had to do it once for Christmas. Now my toddler leaves him alone.
