why won t my christmas tree stand straight

We recently moved from an area where all the tree sellers had a wonderful machine that drilled holes in the trees so they would stand perfectly straight in their stands Now we live in an area where no one has that machine All the trees seem to be crooked and misshapen, and our stand no longer works Last year, we finally gave up we simply couldn’t keep the tree standing, even with a new stand and an old one, wedges, and hours of work A Christmas tree is important to us my husband and I have centuriesold traditions I have ornaments that came from USA in 1842 He has three that arrived on the Mayflower, and while they have nothing to do with Christmas, they are a tangible testament to what that time was like for his family Almost all of our Christmas ornaments are full of stories and memories some are handmade, others were gifts from friends around the world, and some were made by children in Africa So every year as we decorate, we relive the love and friendship behind each tree Not having a tree is painful We’ve talked about an artificial tree, but it seems very fake to me I also like to take out the real tree after the holidays and decorate it with edible plants for the birds Then we compost it in the spring There’s no plastic to store it in So, decorators, how do I get a tree without holes so it will stand up All suggestions are welcome

Buy a tree Hold it so the bottom of the truck touches the ground Keep it level Have someone mark a line on the trunk at a 90degree angle to the flat surface you’re holding it on Then, place the tree on the ground Use the drill to drill holes in the tree from below, following the marked line

I have a stand that screws into the sides, but it takes two people to set it up We trim the base to make it as straight as possible Then, one of us holds the tree upright, while the other slides underneath to lightly tighten the screws Finally, we slide it into the desired position and fully tighten the screws We tried using a stand with a stake, but we threw it away after a year Too much of a hassle
